My cat.
Granted she is 16 – so about 80 in human years – so I am not surprised at her lethargy. The UK is also going through the second ‘unprecedented’ heat wave for this summer, so my whole household is attempting to move as little as possible to conserve energy in this heat.
But my cat’s day consists of moving around the house to various comfy sleeping positions, sleeping for 18-20 hours every day, and being pampered with cuddles and treats by both me and my husband. If she had her way, she would sleep on my lap for the entire day, and I would only be able to move bwhen she gets bored of me and wants more food. Unfortuantely the current heat means these lap-naps are short lived, but in the cooler weather and in winter, she will stay on my lap for as long as I allow her.
On the one hand, I do view it as such a privilege that my cat feels so safe throughout the whole house that she is happy to sleep on any and every surface she can find. She has a few favourites, but she really can sleep anyway – for a short period her favourite place to sleep was on our kitchen cutting board! And even with all of those options, her absolute favourite place to sleep in on my lap.
But also, do you know what I would give to be able to sleep for 18 hours?! What I would do to spend my whole day just napping and sunning myself, occassionally chasing a toy around a room before being rewarded with treats and cuddles? It does bring me some joy to live vicariously through her, knowing that she has never had to worry about an email finding her, never had to worry about her timesheets for work, never had to do laundry or grocery shopping.
A girl can dream right?!
