Galaxy dairy free salted caramel

Galaxy was always my favourite chocolate before I went vegan, especially their salted caramel chocolate bar. Galaxy chocolate has always been soft and silky, with chocolate that just melts in your mouth and always ended up a 10/10 chocolate bar. Since going vegan, Galaxy have very slowly released new vegan chocolate, but this never truly felt like a Galaxy bar. It never had that Galaxy ‘shape’ to it, and the chocolate was always quite thin. It was tasty, but never quite hit the same level that the non-vegan Galaxy chocolate always did.

However it seems Galaxy have done a recipe update! Normally, a recipe update means that a product has been made worse in some way as it usually means that something has been removed from the product. But in this case, it seems that Galaxy have improved their vegan chocolates by making them far more similar to the non-vegan chocolate options.

For starters the shape has changed from just the standard chocolate squares, to these filled pods. I would say that this chocolate should be kept in the fridge, as that strong crunch of the chocolate when you bite into it is very much missed if the chocolate is room temperature. I did find that the softer chocolate and the caramel filling just molded into one texture, which whilst it didn’t change the taste at all, I did prefer the nice crunch of the colder chocolate to compensate for the very creamy caramel in the middle. This is likely a personal preference, but that is my recommendation.

The chocolate is the usual creamy chocolate that you expect from Galaxy, and the caramel filling is very sweet and creamy. This is now far more closer in product to the non-vegan option, and I am very excited about that. I also saw that whilst you cvan buy it as a bar (like the one pictured), you can also buy a smaller, single chocolate bar version, as you can with other chocolate bars. Meaning that if I need a little pick-me up whlst out and about, I can now buy a vegan chocoalte bar that is snack size, rather than having to usually buy a full size chocoalte bar.

This full bar cost £3 from my local Sainsbury’s, although hvaing looked around the bar does seem to range between £2.50 – £3 in other shops. This is a little bit expensive, but it is on the same level as other vegan chocolate bars. Although I do find it annoying that this bar is £3 for 100g, whilst the non-vegan options are around £3 for 180g. Nearly double the chocolate for the same price. This is the unfortunate ‘vegan tax’ where the vegan product tends to be smaller and more expensive than the non-vegan alternative, however there is little we can do about this – hopefully if we buy more of it, the demand will increase and the costs of the product can be reduced once the brand recognise that this is a staple product that is always in demand.
