In 2023 Joey Carbstrong, an animal rights activist who creates detailed expose videos showing the horrors inside UK slaughterhouses, released a video called ‘Pignorant’ which showed the conditions inside a UK pig gas chamber. The 70-year-old facility in which they filmed, located in Ashton-Under-Lyne in the UK – which killed around 750,000 pigs annually – was shut down in 2023 following an undercover footage that was taken during the investigation. The abandoned site was then cleared and was set to be demolished to make way for new warehouses.
It has finally been confirmed that the gas chamber in question has been demolished! Never again to be used for the killing of animals, so naturally there is a lot of celebrating taking place in the animal rights and veganism movement right now.
So for all those who say that no one person can make a difference, this is proof that anyone can make a difference, and that no matter how small you believe your contribution may be, it all adds to a bigger picture and for real change to take place.
