Trust me to find a new vegan doughnut option! Joe Blake’s seem to specialise in ‘coffee and cake’, so they did set quite a high bar for the doughnuts they had on sale. They are your stereotypical London coffee chain, with the very clean aesthetic and the high price tag to go with it, but their doughnuts looked so good I had to try them.
Ignore the harm that came to the top of the doughnut – it got a little smooshed in the box on the way home, but the taste and overall shape of the doughnut remained intact.

I love anything lemon, and it is odd that so few vegan options out there actually lean into the fruit flavours, instead choosing to go for the sugary flavours instead, so I was quite excited to see something that wasn’t caramel or Biscoff flavoured. The dough itself is a sourdough, as it wasn’t as sweet as I was expecting. It was light and fluffy though, which is to be expected with any baked good really. The doughnut is filled with a very sharp lemon curd, which definitely woke me up! Personally, I think there was too much filing in this doughnut, because as tasty as it was, it literally exploded out of the doughnut with each bite which just made for a very messy experience. Thankfully I was at home with a plate so no one actually saw me with sticky fingers and lemon curd all over my face. Again, a very tasty filling indeed, just far too much of it.
In terms of where they sit on the doughnut scale, I do not think they are as high end as Crosstown, but they are more decadent than Doughnut Time/Rodeo Doughnuts. I also think the flavour offerings are slightly better

These doughnuts are a high-end treat, each one costing around £3.50 each. Luckily you can get slight discounts if you buy a multipack so it does help bring the doughnut’s down to around £3 instead. Still quite expensive for a baked good, but I do think that these offer a higher level of product than a Krispy Kreme or other cheaper version, so I do think that these ones was worth the extra money.
