I am currently in the process of house hunting and as I will be relocating to a new area (not too far away from where I am currently based but far enough away to require a bit of travel) and no one warns you how tiring house hunting can really be. The last weekend we saw around 6 properties and ended up walking 20km in one day going back and forth between properties. But all of that walking and all of the excitement that comes with looking for a new home requires sustenance to keep me going.

When I was marathon training, I found that oats worked well for me. I know some people prefer different carbs but for me, oats are a go to when I know that I am going to have a busy day and need something to see me through it without getting hangry. I saw these oat squares in Lidl and they looked the perfect size to pop in my bag just in case we didn’t find anytime to stop for an actual lunch.
For starters these are very much an oat bar. The chocolate orange smell was very strong but the flavour was very much muted by the actual oats. Which is ok, because I do find that oats do dilute a lot of flavours, but there was the very subtle hint of chocolate which was enough of a sugar hit to keep me going. The bar itself is always quite chewy and it reminded me of a date bar a little bit. It is sweet but nothing overpowering, as oats themselves do tend to be quite plain in flavour and so do cancel out a lot of strong flavours. The bar itself is quite small, but I do find that anything oat based can be very filling. One bar was enough to satisfy my hunger cravings, and it did keep me satisfyingly full from the afternoon until the evening when I got to dinner.

There’s not really a lot to say to these. They are from Lidl so they aren’t going to be anything ground-breaking, but they are tasty enough to become a helpful staple in the grocery shop to keep on hand if you ever need a quick snack. A pack of 4 cost Ā£1.70 (at least at my local store, I am not sure if the price changes depending on location) and this works out to be roughly 45p. Which I think is very reasonable, although it is hard to argue that anything from Lidl could ever be considered expensive – the whole point of Lidl is that it is a very cheap and affordable supermarket.
Excellent! š I am glad to hear it. š
