What plants are safe for dogs?

With the warmer months approaching, I have no doubt that so many of us are beginning to make plans for our garden. It always surprises me what plants – and what beautiful flowers – are actually highly toxic for companion animals, and as a result I have prepared a helpful list to help me plan what I want my garden to look like.

I have already made a list of what plants safe for cats, so do check that out if needed. Luckily the list is very similar for dogs, but as a quick overview:

AVOID – super toxic

  • hydrangeas
  • peonies
  • lilies
  • chrysanthemum
  • Tulips
  • ivy
  • tomatoes
  • foxglove

Safe

  • roses
  • Sunflowers
  • Marigold
  • Snapdragons
  • Lavender
  • rosemary
  • thyme
  • Camellias
  • basil

There are obviously way more for both lists, but I thought these would be the most likely ones that a person would want to grow in their garden. This also comes with the advice that you should always supevrise your animals whilst they are out in your garden. Even if you think the garden is safe, animals will always want to find something new and interesting to shove their faces into, so it is always best to be diligent.
