Buttermilk choc wafer bar

It seems there has been a bit of a hole in my life since the vegan kitkat has been discontinued. There are still great chocolate options out there, but sometimes there are itches that no amount of dairy-free chocolate can scratch. I still get a little grumpy when I walk through my local groceries and see that they seem to stock every other flavour possible of Kitkat, but for some reason it was the vegan option that got removed from production. Stupid Nestle.

You can therefore imagine my (reserved) excitement when I spotted the Buttermilk wafer chocolate at my local Sainsbury’s store. I have had a few of the Buttermilk products before (such as their salted caramel cups) so I was quietly optimistic that this would be at least a tasty treat, even if it was not a perfect replacement for the Kitkat.

Firstly, this thing is thick! I would definitely not recommend keeping this in the fridge as I fear you’d break a tooth on it if you tried to eat it too cold. That being said, the chocolate is thin enough to not be overpowering, but just thick enough to give you a very nice ‘snap’ when you take a bite. The wafer instead is definitely softer than a kitkat, so there isn’t so much of that satisfying ‘crunch’ that you get with a Kitkat, but the wafer is still crunchy enough to be a nice change of texture to the very smooth chocolate. It isn’t a perfect repl;acement for the Kitkat, but it is still a very tasty and very satisfying chocolate bar that I will definitely be picking up more regularly.

This bar cost me £1.50 and this seems to be the going rate for these bars across most supermarkets. I don’t tend to eat chocolate too often, so as a once in a while treat, this is likely my new go-to. It also appears from the Buttermilk website that you can buy a multipack of their products so that each individual item technically costs less. I will not be doing this, as if I have unlimited access to chocolate, I will eat them all in one sitting. It is why I limit my chocolate to a once in a while treat, so as to avoid a quick death by chocolate.
