Tofu Heaven tofu bites

This was easily the best accidental find that I mae whilst in Rotterdam. As a city, Rotterdam seemed amazing for vegan food and vegan options, and I definitely would like to go back to fully explore it all without needing to rush. Our cruise ship was only docked in Rotterdam for around 24 hours, and whilst exploring the city, it began to torrentially rain and my husband and I found ourselves in this very cool food hall (called the Markthal) which had so many amazing food options to explore. But then I saw Tofu Heaven and that was me sold.

I did not know that tofu could be made so well! I initially tried the fried tofu and goodness me have I been enlightened! This tofu was crispy on the outside and super fluffy and dense on the inside, making it taste almost like a very light chicken nugget. They were largely plain, aside from the slight herby salt and pepper on top and the very light oil that the chunks had been fried in. They were light and crispy and absolutely blew my mind on how differently tofu can really be made. It also came with a sweet chilli sauce for dipping, but there were other sauces that could been chosen from if you did want something different. I don’t think the tofu needed a sauce but it was a nice added flavour that really added to the whole meal.

The actual stall had multiple otpions available (some of which I tried later on in the day!) and in each option the tofu had been prepared in a different manner which was also very cool to see. It was also very reasonably priced, with this tray of tofu bites costing roughly £5, meaning that it would be (if I lived in Rotterdam at least) a very quick and easy meal. The serving was very generous too and I was amazed at how filling I found this tofu – I don’t think I could have finished a whole portion by myself, but then again they were so tasty I likely would have pushed through purely to enjoy every last bite.
