My time on a cruise boat

Apologies for the slight change in my posting schedule – I was on a boat! Well, a cruise ship to be exact and I doubt that it could really be called a boat. It had 18 floors!

This holiday was so needed and I was cut off entirely from any sort of internet connection when out on the sea. My cruise took me to three locations (Rotterdam, Hamburg and Zeebrugge) in Northern Europe and it was very nice to finally get out of the UK and to see somewhere new. It is also the first time I have left the UK in 6 years and had a holiday, so it was very much needed!

Unfortunately, it seems that I am not made for the sea. I never really managed to get my sea legs and whilst the cruise ship has massive technology on board so that you do not feel the movement of the ship, I realised that I really noticed the movements. It wasn’t necessarily a bad thing (I know that boats move whilst on the water) and it didn’t give me sea sickness, but it did make me feel a little bit disorientated at times which did make it quite hard to disconnect from. I am also someone who struggles to maintain my balance just standing still on dry land, so moving around on a swaying boat was rather problematic!

I did however enjoy the experience for what it was. Personally, the ship was best when we were at port and most of the other guests left the boat: When at sea the boat was very busy and it was very hard to find any quiet space inside the ship, and whilst there was space outside at times, it was also super windy and the beginning of November so not at all a warm experience. But the time away was greatly needed and the cities I got to visit were beautiful – and I of course managed to find so much new vegan food to try!
