Crosstown apple crumble doughnut

It wouldn’t be a trip into London without a visit to Crosstown Doughnuts. As it is also officially autumn here in the UK, it also means that all the best autumnal flavours are out in force, including apple and cinnamon everything, which I am absolutely here for! Crosstown Doughtnuts are always a safe choice, as whilst they are expensive, they are absolutely worth the money in my opinion and I will always say yes to one of these.

The apple crumble doughtnut was yet another excellent offering from Crosstown. The doughnut dough is the usual sourdough, meaning that the overall doughnut isn’t overly sweet as the sourdough is quite a nice savoury flavour. It was light and fluffy, as expected, and was a lovely neutral base so that the actual apple and cinnamon flavourings could shine.

The apple sauce filling was delicious. It was quite tart, so had a lovely freshness to it, which worked very well with the sourdough base. It was sweet, but in a natural way, so it didn’t have any sickly sweetness to it. The cream on top added that sugary sweetness to the whole doughnut, and I found the tartness of the apple sauce filling helped to cut balance out the sweet of the cream. The glaze was a very subtle cinnamon flavouring, and the crumble topping added a nice extra texture to each bite, which I very much enjoyed. Whilst it came unheated, I do think that you could warm this up and it would be the most perfect autumnal treat.

Crosstown is quite expensive, with this doughnut costing £5.95. But I do stand by the opinion that Crosstown are worth that high pricetag. These doughnuts are always a delight, and even the ‘bad’ flavours are still very tasty. Definitely worth trying if you get the opportunity, and I always make a point when I am in London to stop by a local shop to see what new flavours they have out, as they do tend to change often.
