Little Moons chocolate fudge mochi

I love a sweet treat (as no doubt this blog shows) so I am always on the lookout for something new to try. I really enjoyed the other flavours of Little Moons mochi, so was very excited when I saw that this new flavour has just been released.

One thing I was not prepared for was the cocao dusting on the outside of these little treats. I would argue there is too much, as I did genuinely choke on the dust when I clearly inhaled whilst the mochi was too close to my mouth and just filled my lungs with the cocao dust. I also found it would just cling to my fingers, so it did get a little bit messy. The packaging does state that you need to let these mochi rest for 5 minutes once removing them from the freezer, but this didn’t stop the cocao powder going everywhere. I do also find cocao powder to be very bitter, so whilst it was a nice juxtapose to the very rich and sweet chocolate ice cream, there was so much of it that I did find it a little overwhelming.

The actual ice cream was very nice – very creamy and a very rich chocolate flavour. The ice cream however did contain chunks of fudge, which whilst nice, were also solid, and I did fear that I was going to chip a tooth. Annoyingly, fudge seems to melt at a far slower rate than ice cream, so whilst I did wait longer than 5 minutes to see if that helped the fudge soften up a little bit, I found the ice cream was just melting too quickly and thus making the whole snack just quite messy to eat. It was still very tasty, but just a little messy. I do feel like the fudge peices did not add much to the mochi though aside from a very crunchy texture, which whilst nice, I think I would have preferred if this was just a chocolate chip or a cookie piece as has been done previously.

I do find the mochi to be one of the more expensive treat options out there, but as they are frozen, they are an easy option to keep on hand if you ever need a quick sweet treat. Each packet has 6 mochi balls per packet, and at my local Tesco this was £5, which seems to be the general RRP (recommended retail price). As it is getting colder here in the UK, I will likely not pick these up too often, so a packet will likely last me a good few weeks. However I still think that whilst this is a tasty offering, I personally think that the other flavours are nicer.
