I will admit, my skincare (especially for my whole body) gets very lazy during the winter because I know I am not going anywhere and even if I was to go out, I can wear lots of layer so my skin is never observed. However, I finally decided to stop being rude to myself and to finally get a good body care routine in place, mainly to help support my skin but to also just enjoy a little bit of self care, which I admit I have always been very bad at prioritising.

I decided to start quite simple and to test out a few body lotions to find one that I really liked and also worked well with my skin. My skin can get quite dry, especially in winter, so I am ideally looking for a product that is hydrating enough for the winter but is not so heavy a lotion that it weighs me down in summer. Superdrug is my go to shop for affordable and good quality products and all of their own brand products are vegan friendly and cruelty free. As I am still testing out what really works for me, I didn’t want to start with very expensive products and am currently focusing more on what ingredients seem to work best for my skin. Maybe as I narrow this down, I might invest in the more expensive and high end products, but this remains to be seen.
I love the smell of shea butter. I don’t know why but it always reminds me of holidays abroad, I suppose because so many sun care products tend to include shea butter. Anything with shea butter in is a win for me so I decided to try my luck with this HUGE tub. So far, this is working great. The cream itself is very soft and leaves my skin feeling very smooth and hydrated, and leaves that wonderful subtle smell of shea butter on my skin which I find to be such a comforting smell. It is a slightly thicker cream than I am used to, but it spreads very easily on my skin and doesn’t need lots of work to settle into my skin. I do find that sometimes, especially now that summer has hit here in the UK and the humidity has absolutely skyrocketed, that the product can sit on certain parts of my body for a little longer than normal and can leave me looking a little bit streaky. I am finding that less is more, and also that certain parts of my body seem to be a lot drier than others: My legs always seem to be soak up the lotion like they’ve never even touched water before, whereas my arms need very little lotion and it is usually on my arms that I notice the lotion getting streaking and taking a long time to fully soak in. No doubt this is something that happens with every body and will no doubt change with the seasons, but may be something for you to think about yourself if you are also just starting your own experimentation journey.

Superdrug is always super affordable, with this litre of lotion costing only £5. It was on sale from £10, but even at £10 I think this is insanely good value for money. I have been using this product for around 2 months now and I am not even a quarter of the way through the tub, so no doubt this will last me a long time. For £5 though there is no downside. It isn’t anything fancy or special, but then for £5 it doesn’t need to be. It also works exactly how it is meant to, and is clearly a very safe choice if you just want a product that is simple but effective. It also comes with a very handy little hand pump lid, which makes me feel like I am at a spa, which just adds to the whole relaxation for me.
