NOMO Coconut chocolate bar

I am likely going to get a lot of heat for this but…I loved Bounty Bars. I love coconut, and I love chocolate, and the combination was always my favourite. I was never a big fan of other Mars company chocolates (like Twix or even Mars), but I would have happily lived off of Bounty Bars and Snickers. Naturally, I am yet to find a vegan alternative for both of these. I was quietly optimistic when NoMo released their coconut version chocolate bar, but I also knew it wasn’t going to be a direct replacement for the Bounty.

I quite like NoMo in general, and if I ever want a chocolate bar they are one of my safest options, as no matter the flavour the chocolate will be tasty and creamy and the flavours will be as they say on the packet. NoMo are also one of the more regularly available brands out there, as I think all major supermarkets will stock at least two (if not more) flavour options. I managed to get this bar as part of the last of some Easter clearance so it also came with a chocolate coconut flavoured egg, but the bar on it’s own is quite easy to come by.

As mentioned before this is not a direct replacement for the bounty, as it doesn’t actually contain any shaved coconut the way a Bounty Bar does, but taste wise it is very close. The chocolate is the usual creamy and sweet chocolate of all the NoMo bars, and the coconut flavoured filing is quite subtle. It is one of those flavours that you only really notice after you have finished your mouthful. NoMo is meant to be an everyday chocolate bar, as in it is easily available most places, and is very much meant to act as a vegan alternative for the more traditional chocolate bar snacks, like your Bounty Bars, the Mars Bars or the Twix. Is this the greatest chocolate bar you are ever going to taste? No. But is it tasty enough to enjoy on a regular basis, such as on those days when you’re having a rough day at work and just want a little extra treat, which is usually why I buy NoMo? Absolutely.

This bar cost me £1.30 which is on par with the other NoMo options and the other vegan alternatives out there. Yes it is still more expensive than the non-vegan versions, but not by much and that is just the unfortunate vegan tax more than anything else I think. I do not buy these too often, but if I ever do that little sweet treat pick-me-up then this will likely be my go to NoMo option moving forward, as it tastes lovely and also reminds me of those nostalgic Bounty Bar days.
