Krispy Kreme pistachio doughnut

I knew it would happen eventually, where Krispy Kreme finally let me down a little bit with one of their vegan offerings. Whilst this doughnut was fine, it was absolutely not what was advertised, so that counts as a disappointment in my eyes.

There is very little pistachio flavouring to this. There is a slight savoury flavour to it so the doughnut isn’t as sweet as it usually is, but I would not have been able to say that it was a pistachio flavour. Which is a shame because I do love pistachios! The raspberry flakes were a nice visual addition, but again they didn’t really taste of anything. I had hoped that they might have added a little tartness to the doughnut, and I guess they did, but they are such tiny flakes that the flavour barely registers in comparison to the sweet of the doughnut.

The flavour is largely that of an original glaze, but not as sweet. It is still sweet, and this doughnut was indeed a tasty doughnut, but it was not pistachio flavoured and was really just an original glaze with some fancy decoration. Not necessarily a bad thing, because as I say the doughnut itself was still a very tasty doughnut, but it definitely wasn’t the flavour that I was expecting and was a very dull flavour as a whole.

Krispy Kreme is always affordable in my book so I think the doughnut itself is good value for money. It is a tasty doughnut for around £3 – less if you buy as part of a multipack – but at the same time it is not the best flavour on offer and I think I’d rather spend my £3 on any of the other flavours. Or save myself a tiny bit of money and just get a standard original glaze for £2.85. If you like the look of the doughnut and just want to try something new, then you can obviously try this, but I would recommend just skipping this entirely and getting any other flavour, because this one doesn’t really have it’s own flavour.
