The Bakehouse chocolate and orange cookies

I have been a bit sick lately and in those moments of sickness, all I ever want to eat is comfort food. And there is nothing more comforting than a chocolate chip cookie. I didn’t want a specialist one, as quite frankly I didn’t want to have to pay around £3 for a vegan cookie, but I did want a chocolate chip cookie which are surprisngly hard to find near me. I used to love the Maryland vegan cookies but these seem to have vanished from my local shelves, even though I know that they are still in circulation. As you can tell, it has been a bit of a hard time for me.

I spotted these in a local convience store, which I was not expecting. Perhaps it should have been a warning that these cookies were opposite all of the cleaning products but I decided to give them a try as they looked like the exact type of cookie I was looking for. Now my expectations were low, simply because it is rare to find anything great in a local mini store, but I still wanted to give them a go.

I very much ate my words. These are so nice! They taste just like the Maryland cookies, except with a very satisfying orange taste. The cookies do not smell like orange, but the taste is very much there. It isn’t overpowering though and very much tasted like a Terry’s chocolate orange (or at least how I remember those to taste) so it was very yummy indeed! The cookies are a decent size; not as big as a home baked cookie, but bigger than your regular supermarket cookies. They are crunchy cookies, so were a little bit crumbly, so just be aware if you are wanting to dunk these in any sort of liquid (like a cup of tea or a glass of oat milk) as they will leave a lot of crumbs. I will also warn you that they are seriously moreish – I could have eatten the whole packet and not even have noticed, they are just so crunchy and yummy. That being said, one cookie alone is enough to satisfy that cookie craving you may have, but I also defy you to only be able to eat one of these. As I say, super moreish!

There were other flavours available and each packet was on sale in my little local convinience store for £1.50, which is pretty cheap. The packet came with 8 cookies in it, and seeing as how you get 4 in a packet from M&S for £3, this does seem like a decent trade off. The cookies are very tasty for a rather cheap price, and I am very keen to try the different flavours from this brand now moving forward.
