Lidl Vemondo no chicken drumsticks

One of my favourite comfort foods were the drumsticks from Vivera, however I am very much convinced that these have been discontinued because I have not seen them in my shops for about a year at this point. They were just perfect for those days when I still wanted a high protein option but didn’t really want to have to cook anything special. So you can only imagine how excited I was when I saw that Lidl have released their own version as part of their Vemondo line.

Needless to say these taste exactly the same as the Vivera version. The texture is better in my opinion though, as these Vemondo drumsticks are very dense and have more of a flaky interior, which is a great contrast to the super crispy outside – I found the Vivera drumsticks could sometimes be a little bit too soft and would just end up being a bit too mushy. These drumsticks also have a very strong southern fried flavour to them, so they do have a bit of spice and bit of a kick to them. I don’t think it is too overpowering though as the heat only lasts for a few moments after a bite and doesn’t linger or cause your mouth to burn off. We have used these in different dishes and find that even when mixed in with sauces, these add a nice and subtle smoky flavour to a dish. Hopefully these can be used in many different recipes and meal plans and will no doubt compliment most ingredients.

Again I have not been able to find out if these are just for Veganuary or if they are being added as a permanent addition. Lidl tends to be quite a good brand for keeping their Veganuary additions permanently so fingers crossed this is the case! I think if these disappear in February, I will have no choice but to riot (I mean this melodramatically).

A packet of these cost £1.69 from Lidl and I think that is quite a reasonable price. One packet does a meal for my husband and I, and each portion (two drumsticks) has really good macros, meaning that it is an easy way to add a big portion of protein to a meal. Obviously we also have other things with these, but they are such a simple flavour that I feel they would mix in well with any meal you had in mind.
