Galaxy vegan crumbled cookie chocolate

I always remember Galaxy chocolate being one of the elite brands of chocolate before I went vegan. Their chocolate was always the creamiest, smoothest, and richest chocolate out there on the market and one of my favourites was always the cookie crumble chocolate bar. I have always been on the lookout for something similar but I do find that most vegan chocolate never reaches that same level of silky smoothness that Galaxy dairy chocolate did. I have tried some of the vegan Galaxy chocolate bars before but to be honest, they have always been a little bit disappointing, and always way too expensive for what they are. But I saw they had released this vegan version of the cookie crumble bar and I just had to give it a try.

It is exactly how I remember. The chocolate isn’t as smooth as I remember the dairy version being, but I do think that Galaxy have improved upon their vegan chocolate recipe. This one definitely didn’t have that slightly grainy texture that their other bars did (and as many vegan chocolates sometimes have too) and it definitely had that creamy texture that I always remember the Galaxy bars have. The cookie pieces work great to give the chocolate this really satisfying crunch to the chocolate and to break up some of that creaminess. The closest I could compare it to is a KitKat – it has that same wonderful light crunch to it and yet still has that thick chocolate flavour to it.

My one complaint is that the chocolate bar is very thin. No doubt it is the thinness of the chocolate that helps give it more of a creamy texture, but it does feel quite flimsy when you hold it. Just getting it home I did break it in half in my bag, so it really is quite a delicate bar. This also means that I found it melts quite quickly, just from the heat of my hands – and I am someone that runs pretty cold all the time! This means that you can’t really sit there and enjoy it, as if you hold the chocolate for more than ten seconds it starts to melt in your hand and you get sticky fingers, which does very much bring the whole experience down a little bit. Perhaps this is offset if you keep the chocolate in the fridge, but I also feel that is quite the debate to be had in general!

Being Galaxy, this chocolate bar does come with a higher price point. This bar cost me £3 from my local Lidl, and from looking online it seems that £3 is the base price for this bar. No doubt you might be able to find it cheaper if you shopped around a lot, but £3 seems to be the most readily available price for it. Which is expensive, especially when I think that the chocolate bar itself is thinner and smaller than the dairy version, and yet the dairy version seems to be half the price of the vegan version – the Vegan Tax once again here to haunt us! So whilst I am happy that a vegan version of my favourite chocolate has been released, I am still disappointed that the final product is so flimsy.

I also have not been able to confirm whether this is a Veganuary only product. I have never seen it anywhere prior to this month, and so far I have only been able to find it once, which all suggests it is only here for a limited time. But that being said, I have not been able to find anything online about it being a Veganuary exclusive – online would suggest that it is indeed a product to stay all year round, but I guess I will just need to keep an eye out for it past February to know for certain. If anyone has been able to find a definitive answer, please let me know!
