Now I do not know if these were for Veganuary or if they were released just because it’s a new year, but a new vegan option at Krispy Kreme is always a cause for celebration! If there is one thing this blog has taught any of you, it is that I am a big fan of doughnuts. I also haven’t had a new doughnut in quite a while, and with the way my fitness training is currently going, this may also be my last doughnut for some time. Which means that this doughnut is a little disappointing. There is always the chance that I simply picked up a poorly made one in store, but let’s assume that this is how they come as standard. Which still leaves them as a little disappointing.

That being said this isn’t a bad doughnut. It just isn’t their best offering. The dough is the usual light and fluffy doughnut base that you can expect from a Krispy Kreme doughnut. The topping is a cinnamon sugar coating which is very similar to the cinnamon swirl doughnut they have. Unfortunately there is not much of a cinnamon flavouring in this doughnut, especially if I were to compare it to the cinnamon swirl. The filling is similar to that of an apple pie, in that you have a nice apple sauce with actual chunks of apple in it, which was very tasty and did help to cut through the sugar on the topping.

Annoyingly though, my doughnut was very cheap with their filling. I essentially had barely any filing, so the whole doughnut just tasted like a worse version of the cinnamon swirl. When I did get some of the filling, the flavours really complemented each other and it did very much taste like an apple pie, but that was maybe only two small bites out of the whole doughnut, which is quite a generous size anyway. I also wouldn’t say that I got much of a toffee flavour from it – yes it is very sweet, but that would be expected simply because it is a doughnut covered in sugar. I wouldn’t say that I could really ‘taste the toffee’, so much as I could just taste sweetness.

As I always say with Krispy Kreme, they are very affordable doughnuts. Each doughnut is about £3 (depending on how complicated or limited the doughnut is) if bought on its own, but the box deals do cut these prices down quite a lot. I got this as part of a three pack to share with my husband and the whole 3 pack cost me £6. This price is obviously impacted the more doughnuts you buy in a pack, so if you ever want to treat someone (or yourself for that matter) without breaking the bank, then Krispy Kreme is always a solid shout.
