Sunday Musings

Daily writing prompt
Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?

My favourite childhood toy growing up was a stuffed toy duck that I creatively named, Duck. My parents say that he used to have a big head of hair and a little squeaker inside him, but being the agent of chaos that I am, I quickly removed both. I have had him since I was a baby and took him everywhere with me for most of my childhood.

Duck was also my first word. And to this day, I still find ducks to be adorable and hilarious creatures. I am definitely incapable of walking past a flock of ducks (or even a singular duck) and not pointing out that there are ducks in the vicinity.

Duck currently sits in my bedroom. He is mostly for display, as he is incredibly delicate and I think I would have a genuine meltdown if he fell apart. He is over 30 years old at this point, so it is quite a possibility that his threads could come lose or his fabric isn’t as strong as it once was. He currently sits with my other childhood teddy bear, Bob, and I fully intend to take them both with me no matter where I go. Sometimes I give them both a little cuddle for nostalgia, but just being able to see them throughout my day still brings me comfort.
