I have always heard great things about the Tony chocolate brand, but annoyingly I have never been able to find the vegan versions anywhere near me. In fact the only ones I have ever been able to find were in specialist vegan chocolate gift packs online, which is actually how I obtained this. I was gifted a box of vegan chocolates for Christmas and was quite keen to try the Tony’s because, as I say, I have never been able to find this in a shop near me.

I hate to say it, but it was not worth the wait. It tasted like every other sea salt chocolate bar I have had, although the dark chocolate did add a little bitterness to the whole bar which was quite a nice break from all the other vegan chocolate I had eaten. I do also find that dark chocolate and sea salt is such a lazy flavour and it is also very much overdone within the vegan market. It seems that chocolate can either be milk or it is dark sea salt. Occasionally you get orange or salted caramel, but that’s about as exciting as they seem to get. According to their website they offer a creamy hazelnut flavour as well, but that’s it for their vegan offerings: dark or hazelnut. Which is…disappointing. Especially for a brand that seems to be marketed as quite a high end chocolate brand. Whilst I cannot find their vegan options anywhere but online, their dairy versions are all over the place and in almost every supermarket that I visit. Hopefully they come out with something a bit more exciting as they grow their vegan options, so I guess we can only wait and see.

The one upside to the bar though is that it is a very thick chocolate bar, so do not leave this in the fridge unless you want to lose a tooth when you try to bite into it! The thickness was nice and it did have a satisfying crunch to it, but aside from that it didn’t really seem to do much else. the dark chocolate does mean that it doesn’t get sickly sweet at all, but I am also not a massive fan of dark chocolate anyway so one small bar was more than enough for me.

Online it appears that you can buy this small bar for £1.49, and a large bar for £3.98, both of which seem to be quite reasonably priced and are very much on the same level as other big branded chocolate bars. Personally, I don’t think these were tasty enough to replace my current favourites, but if you do enjoy dark chocolate then these are at least affordable enough to be a weekly treat to enjoy, which is always a bonus!
