I think we can all accept that calories consumed over the festive period are not real calories. Hence why I have probably eaten more chocolate in this 5 day period than I do all year round! Luckily for me though I was gifted a lot of these sweet treats so I obviously cannot let them go to waste.

One of my favourite chocolates before going fully vegan were Maltesers. A very British chocolate, they are malted milk centre balls surrounded by milk chocolate. They are light and crunchy, and obscenely addictive. I do still get an occasional cravings for these, especially around the festive season, just because they are such a childhood memory for me.
I was therefore very excited when I was gifted a box of various vegan chocolates, which included these Moo Free Moofreesas. As the name suggests, they are a vegan friendly and dairy free alternative to Maltesers. And that’s exactly what they do. I can’t really say much else about them as they are very much a direct replacement in my opinion. The only slight difference is that the Moofreesas are not as sweet as I remember Maltesers being, but I don’t think this takes away from their taste at all as they are still very yummy. They have that wonderful malted milk crunch in the middle, and the chocolate on the outside is light and just melts away when you pop them in your mouth. Very tasty, very satisfying, and still very addictive.

I was gifted these, but a quick internet search shows that a standard bag of them are available for around £1.50 depending on where you shop. A standard bag is 35g, which has maybe two handfuls of the Moofreesas balls and I actually think that is a very good portion size. They are insanely moreish so it is quite good that there is a limit as to how many you can eat in one sitting. I personally found the 35g bag to be more than enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, hit that nostalgia, but didn’t leave me feeling sick afterwards. The downside is that they are slightly more expensive than the dairy Maltesers, however I would say that the price difference is only around 50p so is actually not the worst vegan tax I have seen. I would highly recommend these if you were a fan of the dairy Maltesers, or if you wanted a nice sweet treat.
