Floof Friday

During the summer, I bought my husband and I bee revival kits from Beevive, and naturally we did not have any chance to use these during the summer months when there were bees a plenty. But I was so excited to find a very fluffy bee resting on a parking bollard whilst we were out on a walk and the revival kit very much came in handy! Given the time of year, I think that this may be a queen bumblebee out of hibernation and/or looking for somewhere to hibernate, but in all honesty I have no idea how to confirm this so if any of you can tell from just a photo please do let me know!

They must have been exhausted because they had a drink of the sugar solution for a solid five minutes or so. Their tongue (or more correctly, their proboscises) was so cool to watch them drinking up as much sugar as they could handle, and then we watched as they cleaned themselves off and then flew away, full and energised once more. It was even cuter that as they were drinking, their little fluffy butt was wiggling away so it looked like they were wagging their little bee tail.

Definitely found very proud of ourselves for spotting this little one, and even more chuffed that we managed to actually help them out and send them on their way. Hopefully they are now back in their nest, ready to spend the winter in hibernation.
