What is good about having a pet?

I think the question should really be, what is bad about having a companion animal?

Personally, any negatives are absolutely minor in comparison to the wonderful things that companion animals can bring to your life. For me, I think the best thing is the companionship. No matter what I am doing, being able to have this little personality to share my life with is something that can never be beaten. There is still nothing greater than watching your bunny binky across the living room for no real reason, or having a cat curled up and purring on your lap whilst you watch TV. There is something so simple about the companionship they bring and it is something that I am currently deeply missing, especially as the winter draws in here in England and the nights become darker and longer.

This will be my first winter without Lola or Sasha, and I understand now why people who have suffered loss dread Christmas. It is so strange to think that I can now just put up a Christmas tree, not having to worry about whether a little being is going to chew through yet another string of lights or knock all of my decorations off of the tree. I likely won’t have to plan about where my tree will have to sit – for the past two years we have used a 1 foot tall tree that can sit on our kitchen table, far from the reach of mischievous little paws.

Nothing will ever compare to the companionship of an animal, and no matter how naughty they can be, I would trade anything to experience that sort of chaotic, unconditional love again.
