National Novel Writing Month has begun!

November 1st marks the start of National Novel Writing Month. Traditionally this means that writers will aim to write 50,000 words over the course of the month of November. There is however scope for people to create whatever writing goal they wish to achieve for this month, be that to write a certain number of words, or to edit a certain number of pages over the course of the month.

There is also the National Novel Writing Month organisation that has spearheaded this initiative over the years, however the organisation faced a lot of controversy this past year. I won’t go into it here, mainly because there are so many articles out there that explain the situation so all I would be doing is repeating what they all say. However the challenge was initially started by a writer who wanted to motivate his fellow writers, and so at the core that is what I am aiming to do for November. This past year my focus has been all on my fitness – running the marathon in particular (and no, I don’t think I’ll ever shut up about it!) – and I feel my writing has really fallen away whilst my focus and energy has been elsewhere.

So this month, I am aiming to write 50,000 words over the course of the month. My plan at the very start of the month is that I will be working on multiple little projects over the month, but as with all my writing, it does tend to grow into something bigger, so we shall just see where the month takes me! Hopefully I can see some of you along the way!
