The winter is starting to settle in here in the UK, so I am slowly switching back to using gentle products on my skin. I find in winter that my skin can get very dry, and so any products that have a lot of strong smells or fragrances can really play havoc with my skin. I decided to try something different this season though, so have gone back to the B. By Superdrug range. Now I will again preface this with the fact that I am not, by any stretch of the imagination, knowledgeable when it comes to skincare. I am slowly working on building up this knowledge, but I am pretty new to all of this. For the most part, I have a cleanser and a moisturiser and I don’t really use anything else. In fact it is only in the past few months that I even started using eye cream (I know I am super late to that party!) so that gives you an idea of my current routine.
During summer I was using the Superdrug tea tree collection, as I find in summer it is really great at keeping my skin under control and preventing breakouts, especially this last summer where I was also training for a marathon. I do find however that these products are too harsh in the winter and I tend to need something a bit more hydrating, or something far more gentler. I have heard good things about the B. By Superdrug brand, and I understand that this is Superdrug’s own version of a professional skincare range. A lot of the products have names that I cannot pronounce, but I decided that as it is a new season, I would branch out a little bit and start with a simple cleanser to see how that goes down.

I have been using this now for about a month and I have to say it is doing what it says it would do. The product itself starts out as a cream, but if you rub the cream in your hands it lathers up into this very soft foam. That in itself if quite fun – reminds of me being a kid playing with bubble bath – and I do find that even though the foam is very light, it is working very well. It leaves my face feeling soft and clean, whilst not drying out my skin the way the tea tree products do. The plus side is that I feel this will last me quite a long time – the cream lathers up really well, to the point where I only need a pea-sized drop of cream to lather up enough foam to cover both of my hands in a good layer of foam, which in turn is more than enough to cover my face. I currently use this once a day and the bottle still feels full.
My one complaint would be that it does smell very much like chemicals. Not so strongly as to make me nervous as to what it is doing to my skin, but it did hit me quite harshly when I first started using it. I think I have gotten used to it now, but just want to make you all aware, especially if you are someone who doesn’t like strong chemical smells. For me, I think the chemical smell is preferred over an artificial fragrance, as I said these types of fragrances do not help my skin at all. But this chemical smell, whilst it can be quite strong at times, it hasn’t taken away from the fact that this cleanser is so far working well for me.
I find Superdrug own brands do tend to be very affordable compared to the other brands out there, but the B. By Superdrug brand is probably their most expensive. This cleanser was £8, which when compared to other skincare brands is still rather cheap, but compared to the tea tree cleanser I had been using, this B. cleanser is about £5 more expensive. As I say, so far I have no reasons to complain, and it is doing very well at keeping my skin hydrating whilst also cleansing it at the end of the day. I am intrigues to see how it holds up once the true English winter really starts to set in, when we tend to have minus temperatures even with the sun out, so perhaps my opinion may change over the next few months. But for now, I think £8 is a good price for the product, and I believe that this is definitely affordable for most people, especially since I think this product is not one you would need to replace on too regular a basis.
