Afterschool Cookie Club chocolate cookie

I feel I am very much on a cookie hype at the moment. I have had such strong cravings for cookies lately so am actively seeking them out. Maybe it’s something to do with the very cold and rainy weather here in the UK, and I am just craving cosy and comforting food? In any event, I just rolling with it!

I previously wrote about my trip to The After School Cookie Club and their branch in Victoria, London. As well as the cookie dough I tried, I also had to try one of their cookies, as this really is their main product – it is literally in their name. The Victoria branch had about 8 different cookie flavour options to choose from, but as this was the first visit I decided to try the simple double chocolate cookie as a good starting point. I guess if you can’t get a chocolate cookie correct, then you likely won’t be able to get a more complicated flavour right either.

This was the ideal cookie. The outside was very crunchy, whilst the middle of the cookie was soft and fluffy. Arguably the cookie was a little too crunchy on the outside, as I definitely needed a drink afterwards to combat a bit of the dryness of the cookie, but I don’t think it was anything too serious. As everything in the After School Cookie Club is also gluten free, it may simply be what happens when you make a gluten free cookie. As someone who doesn’t need to avoid gluten, this is probably my first experience so I don’t have much of a reference. I feel with a cup of tea then this cookie would have been perfect though, and I will definitely keep this in mind for my next visit. The chocolate is rather rich, but it isn’t overly sweet so there was no sickly sweet feeling afterwards which is always a plus. The cookie did also have these lovely chunks of slightly melted chocolate that added a lovely creamy texture to the cookie as well as giving you a good kick of that chocolate flavour. It was very yummy, but one cookie was absolutely enough for me. It satisfied my cookie craving very nicely, and didn’t leave me feeling sugar sick, but I think if I had more than one cookie I would definitely start to feel overpowered.

Each cookie was £3, which whilst it is a bit more expensive than other cookie specialists out there, this isn’t grossly overpriced in my opinion, especially for a London brand that specialises in vegan and gluten free menu items. I think £3 was worth the price for this cookie, as it was a very generous size and satisfied my cookie craving nicely. Obviously though, this is a treat for me. I wouldn’t be able to buy these cookies on a regular basis as I am not located near to a local branch. Yes I could order a box of cookies, but again I would likely only do this for a special occasion or if I intended to share them with lots of people.
