It was bound to happen at some point, where Crosstown – one of my absolute favourite brands for doughnuts – finally releases a doughnut that could be deemed a dud. Now when I say dud, I simply mean that in comparison to some of the other options out there, this one is just a little bit plain in comparison.

Crosstown is easily one of my favourite brands at the moment. Their doughnuts are always such a treat, and they are also one of the few sweet treats out there that doesn’t leave me feeling sick with sugar afterwards. Their doughnuts are all made with a sourdough, which gives them a slightly savoury taste as compared to the cake-like flavour of so many other doughnuts. Now unfortunately for this one, it is just a bit too plain.
The doughnut is the usual sour dough, which is light, fluffy and doesn’t have much of a sweet taste to it. The freeze dried raspberries on the side were very sharp and tart, and were a lovely flavour compared to the more plain taste of the sour dough. Unfortunately I do wish that they had decided to go for these freeze dried strawberries around the whole doughnut, or maybe all across the top? Having them just in this one little section where the jam filling had been added just looked a bit odd to me. The raspberry jam filing was sweet and silky, but there isn’t really much more to say about this. This is easily one of the better jam doughnuts I have ever had, but in comparison to the other flavours that Crosstown offer, this seems very plain in comparison.

This doughnut is £5.25, which is standard for Crosstown doughnuts and I do still believe that this is a fair price to pay for a very high end doughnut. I do not though fully know why anyone would pay £5 for this jam doughnut over one of their more adventurous flavours such as their matcha and strawberry doughnut which takes your standard jam doughnut and adds to it.
