I have mentioned it before in some of my other posts, but I am currently training for a marathon. The marathon will be in York and takes place on 20th October 2024. For the past 5ish months I have been working super hard to get through my training plan so I can give this marathon my all.
And this weekend just gone I finally hit my peak run! 32km!!
32. Kilometres. Which works out to just over 20 miles.
20 miles!!??
There were some runs where I truly doubted that I would ever be able to reach this distance. Yet here I am, having run 32km.
I am now moving into my taper period, where the focus is meant to be on strength, recovery, and rehab so that by the time the race comes around my body is as fresh and as limber as possible. I’ve done the hardest part, which is putting in those miles and figuring out my strategy for the actual race (pace, timings, nutrition plans etc), and now I can take a small step back and focus on looking after my body. Which I sorely need!
Which also leads me to asking you guys for a little bit of advice: I want to focus now on building strength and my flexibility, especially in my legs. I have been doing weight training at the gym but the flexibility is a bit harder to fit in. I’ve done a bit of yoga, but have heard that pilates is a good way to combine strength with flexibility, but I’ve also seen a lot of conflicting information online so not quite sure anymore. Do any of you lovely readers have any recommendations?
