I am aware that this may be a controversial opinion, but I actually don’t mind the vegan Fridge Raider bites. I have seen online that these used to be much loved within the vegan community before the recipe was changed, and now you would think that these were little chunks of death the way some people now speak of them. But for me personally, they are absolutely fine. I mainly enjoy them though because their macros are insane and whilst I am marathon training, this is something that is very important to me.

I have tried the base version of the bites, and I again think they’re pretty good. Yes they are a bit bland, but that doesn’t mean they taste bad. I am however very pleased that they have released a new flavour because these southern fried bites do have a little extra punch compared to the base version.
The southern fried flavouring is the right balance of smokey and spicy. The bites do have a nice level of heat to them, which does linger for a moment, but it doesn’t last for long and doesn’t burn your mouth off the way some spicy options can do. I again stand by my opinion that super spicy does not count as a flavour. The texture is the exact same as the base flavour, so if you are not a fan of that texture you will probably not like this either. I personally prefer the new recipe – the original recipe had this slightly soggy texture to the bites, like they hadn’t fully drained the tofu. Whereas the new recipe, these bites have a much meatier texture to them, where they do have a slightly chewy texture but are defintiely far more solid than they originally were. Whilst I haven’t had meat in about 16 years at this point, these do have the same texture that I remember cocktail sausages having.

The packet size is also a really good portion size. Despite being a relatively small packet, I do find these to be quite filling. I tend to have these as a mid-afternoon snack during the week, especially on the days where I am due to go for a run after work. I find one packet will fill me up quite comfortably and keep me going to the end of my day.
Each packet is priced £1.50, although I havae noticed that they come on sale very often, at least at my local Tesco. When on sale, they are priced at £1, and I think for a quick midday snack that is a very good price. As with all of these sorts of products, I tend to only get these when I am either in the office and need easy to transport food, or if I know I am going to have a very busy day and need quick and easy meals on hand. For me, a few packets each week is worth it for me, but then I also don’t buy them every single week so they are not quite a staple for me. I would say try them for yourself and then decide whether you think this cost is reasonable for how often you would want to eat these.
