Krispy Kreme blueberry bubble bliss

Another week and another new offering from Krispy Kreme. Surprisingly, it has actually been a while since I have had a Krispy Kreme, mainly because I have been so busy lately I haven’t really had a chance to stop and see whether anything new has come through. I do find that Krispy Kreme seem to move quite quickly with their offerings, and there is a high level of turnover with what is on offer, so I made sure this time to grab some of the new ones when I could.

Amazingly as well, this Blueberry Bubble Bliss doughnut was clearly labelled as vegan, with the vegan certified logo on the information sign. Which is such a nice thing to see when looking for food, because even I admit that reading ingredients so often does just start to get tiresome. It is so nice to just be able to find a flavour I like the look off and know that it is vegan friendly, without needing to pull out my phone and do multiple internet checks before ordering. Which made picking this up even easier.

As a base, it is your standard glazed ring doughnut. The doughnut itself was spongy and fluffy, and the icing had that satisfying crunch that you get from a glazed doughnut. So we are off to a good start! The actual blueberry aspect was really quite sweet, especially when mixed with the icing in the middle. It was tasty, but I feel that having a bit of tartness that blueberries have anyway would really helped balance this out a bit more. The little blueberry bubbles on top were similar to the Boba balls that you get in bubble tea, but smaller, as if slightly deflated. They didn’t have much flavour which again was disappointing, as if they had been a really strong, tart blueberry flavour it would have helped massively to cut through the sweetness of the rest of the doughnut. As it comes though, the overall doughnut was tasty, but far too subtle a flavour and overall was just a sweet doughnut with a hint of blueberry to it.

I do stand by my thoughts though that I don’t go to Krispy Kreme for the most extravagant of culinary experiences. Most of their doughnuts are around the £3 mark (some special limited edition flavours tend to be more, whilst the more basic offerings tend to be less) and I think for £3 these doughnuts do exactly what they need to do. They are always tasty, always the perfect kick of sugary goodness that you need, and so they don’t really have to try that hard because they are only £3. I do find though that, especially with my husband, we tend to buy multipacks, which brings the overall cost of each doughnut down, and makes them even better value for money.
