Wicked kitchen Italian inspired amazeballs (meatballs)

I still believe that you cannot beat spaghetti and meatballs as one of the ultimate comfort meals. Even just the basic recipe of meatballs, pasta, and tomato sauce is an elite meal in my opinion. My go to staple for the meatballs is usually the Tesco frozen range, purely because they are frozen and so are great for those days where I don’t want to cook much and need a quick meal. But that’s also because I’ve noticed that the other options, such as the Meatless Farm meatballs have gotten hard to find in my area, where the stock levels seem to fluctuate a lot and I am often left with no option but the frozen ones.

Enter the Wicked Kitchen offering! Now I have a bit of a mixed opinion of Wicked Kitchen. In my experience all of their products end up tasting the same, because Wicked seems to believe that extra hot spices mean extra flavour. Which for me personally is not ideal and is quite disappointing when almost everything they offer is very spicy. I like spice, but there’s also such a thing as spicy flavour fatigue.

Unfortunately the same was true for these. They are very spicy. Luckily it seems to be a instant kick of spice that dies away shortly after so you’re not left with a burning mouth for the whole meal, but again, spicy doesn’t mean flavour. I think I could closely compare it to the taste of pepperoni or chorizo? It’s that sort of spicy kick, rather than a curry kick. That was really the only flavour I got with these, which was a little disappointing but not much of a surprise.

Despite the spice though, these are tasty. As I say the spice isn’t an overpowering heat so does work nicely to give you a little kick. These were a lot meatier (if you pardon the expression) than other meatballs I’ve had, I can only assume that is from the beans and the soya protein used. We had 4 each and for me, I think 4 was pushing it a little bit as they are surprisingly filling despite their average size.

The pack cost £3.30 (at least it did where I shop at Tesco) and you get 12 meatballs in a packet. I do think this is a pretty standard price for packs of meatballs, especially the branded, fresh varieties. However for me personally, I still don’t think that Wicked Kitchen will ever be my ‘go to’ brand over some of the other offerings. And the differences in price between these and the other offerings are so small that it is barely worth it to pick these over the others.
