It was bound to happen. I knew the string of very good vegan food options was feeling a little bit too good to be true. But fear not, a dud has finally arrived. Which is somewhat disappointing as I had high hopes.
As mentioned in my previous porridge post, I am curerntly trialling differnt fuelling methods not only for my running, but for my overall health. Annoyingly, I really do notice the difference in my mood and my energy levels when I fuel my body with more whole foods, but working in an office can sometimes hinder that. Hence why I am trying out various brands of instant porridge pots so I can find one that works best for me and can be a nice easy lunch without any hassle or any bulk.

Now I don’t know if I used too much water, or not enough water – this packet didn’t come with an easy to see fill line so I had to guess – but it was not a good texture. I even let it sit for a good five or so minutes and yet the prorridge just didn’t seem to mix or settle. Which made for an odd soup like texture which was…interesting to say the least.
Tatse wise it didn’t really taste of anything. I didn’t get any hint of chocolate or hazelnut, unless I actually bit into a nut and even then it was a pretty diluted taste. Now this may just be my poor guess at how much water it needed, but it was just very bland. I didn’t even manage to finish it because the whole pot was such a miss. Somehow it managed to make porridge even blander by adding ingredients…not sure if that should be celebrated though?

On its own this pot was £1.10 (at least it was at my local tesco) but it was also on an offer where you could buy a mixture of porridge pots for £3, so it did bring the price down to £1. Now for £1 maybe my epectations were slightly too high, but whenever I buy anything to eat, I at least expect to be able to eat it, and this was a bit of a struggle. So for £1, maybe it is worth the try and would likely do in an absolute emergency, but in all honesty I think you could skip this completely and chose any other £1 pot and have a better experience.
