Little Pudding apple crumble cinnamon bun

I think that food may have peaked. My husband and I decided to have a little explore of London the other week and to go down some of the side alleys we have always walked past but never actually explored. I may be a little biased here, but I think London is truly one of the best cities in the world: It is technically a tiny city (when I compare it to some of the big US ones especially) but it manages to pack so many amazing places that I am still finding new things to love about London, even though I have lived and worked in and around London for close to 10 years now.

One of the places we discovered is the Seven Dials Market. How I have never come across this place before is beyond me when it is literally on the Seven Dials. But it is a fairly large indoor market space which had a load of different food and drink places all set up next to each other, with a big mutual seating area right in the middle. There were so many options to choose from and so I will definitely need to go back to properly try some of the other places. There is a link to the website here where you can get a feel for what sort of options are available.

But this store, the Little Pudding London, caught my eye as soon as I saw vegan apple crumble cinnamon rolls. I mean…how could anyone walk past that??

Goodness me this was something extraordinary. The photos don’t overly do it justice because it is actually a massive size. My husband and I shared it, but I am surprised we did not have a fist fight over who got more of it because this was delicious. The cinnamon roll itself was warm and doughy, and it truly did melt in your mouth. It also seemed to just melt when you touched it, as we were able to slice it into pieces with just a wooden fork. That is how tender this was. It was a huge portion too, and in all honesty I am glad that I shared it with my husband because I think if I ate the whole thing on my own I would need to have a nap afterwards.

But the real kicker was the apple crumble topping. The apple pie filing was drizzled on top of the roll and this was sweet and tart, with lovely crunchy pieces of actual apple. The crumble was fresh and crunchy and again really complimented the softness of the roll itself. when combined the apples gave it this wonderful tartness which cut through the sweetness of the roll, and the cinnamon left a wonderful aftertaste. It was also the perfect warm temperature so it did honestly taste like a hug. There was the option to add either ice cream or whipped cream to the top too to really just elevate it as far as it can go. We went for the whipped cream and it added a nice hit of cold compared to the warm. I feel though that maybe ice cream would be even better, as it would hold it’s coldness for longer and thus keep that contrast going for the whole meal.

Ok so…even I have to admit that this was horrifically expensive. £7 for this. Now I have to say that this was easily the best £7 I have ever spent, and I could absolutely taste the decadence in each bite, but I also appreciate that £7 is very pricey for a dessert, even if in London. The store does offer other options of sweet treats, including doughnuts, so I will definitely have to go back to see if all of the products are as good as this apple crumble cinnamon roll was. I would also add that Seven Dials isn’t somewhere I visit often, but I would make a detour to get these again. So make of that what you will.
