The local heron is back!

I live in Herfordshire, which is a rather rural area with lots of green spaces and waterways throughout it. I do of course live closer to a main city than the coutnryside, but I am lucky to have the green parks and local rivers quite close on my doorstep. They are beautiful to walk around, and I of course do the majority of my runs out in these spaces. There is something so calming about running through nature that just makes the exercise feel fun and freeing.

Annoyingly though it can be hard to spot the wildlife, especially when there is a crowd around or if it has been a very busy, hot day, which most of the days currently are here in England. However either I timed it right, or I just happened to get very lucky, because in my local park, I spotted this gorgeous fella sitting along the river cleaning himself.

Word around the local area is that we only have the one heron, but I have no idea how someone has verified that. I think we must have more than one, just from sheer probability, but again I have no real way to clarify this. If any of you out there know where I could possibly find this information, please do let me know! I was once on a run when a particluar large one flew above me and I truly believe that if he had wanted to carry me off, he could have done. Also so easy to see how these beauties were once pterodactyls.
