Finally a new product from my local Tesco! As good as ice cream and chocolate bars are, I have been on the look out lately for something new. Food fatigue is very real and I think I might actually be getting sick of the same treat foods. Of course I was very excited to find these!

These Doughlicious chocolate truffles are advertised as gluten free and vegan. They are very much like mochi, but I believe the dough is actual dough for cookies, rather than made out of rice as mochi usually is. They are also, quite massive in size. Now the instructions did say to leave them out for a minute or two, to allow the ice cream and the dough to defrost a little bit to make them easier to eat, but this seemed to be a fine balance. I found that after two minutes, the dough itself starts to get a little sticky, in that I was left with chocolate flakes on my fingers where I’d been holding it, but the actual ice cream is so thick that it was still quite solid to bite into. Also if you’re someone with even slightly sensitive teeth (like me) then biting into ice cream is just not an option. I therefore wonder if these would have worked better had they been slightly smaller?
I did find that once you started eating it, the heat from your fingers and your breath with each bite did help to soften the middle of the ice cream a lot faster, but those first initial few bites are definitely ones to approach with caution.

Taste wise though, these are very delicious. The outside does taste exactly like a chocolate chip cookie, and also has a chocolatey crumb coating which added a very satisfying little crunch when you bit into it. The ice cream itself is very rich and chocolatey, so on all accounts it is delicious. It isn’t very sugary, which is nice, as I think at this size the sugar would have simply made it sickly, whereas without you are able to just enjoy the chocolate and the richness of that flavour without feeling overwhelmed. For me, one ball was more than enough, and not just because my fingers were going numb from having to hold it for so long.

A pack comes with 6 balls and cost me £3.25 from my local Tesco. As I said, one ball is enough to satisfy me so if I was being very healthy, I’d probably only one a week. This week however, has been rather rough and comfort food has been needed, so the pack only lasted me about 3 days – although I was sharing with my husband so I didn’t eat the whole packet myself! I think this is a fair price, as the balls themselves are rather big and they do taste very good. I think anymore than the £3 price tag though would be quite a stretch – they’re good but they’re not worth more than the £3.
