Now I want to preface this by saying that I am in no way a ‘make up’ person. I know the absolute bare minimum when it comes to make up and I am only now learning how to really enjoy make up. I am very slowly learning how to ‘properly’ wear make up and how to experiment with it to show off my personality. Perhaps it’s the industry in which I work (very corporate) but I am always told that make up should be subtle and natural looking. But I am starting to realise that it can also be wildly fun and expressive and so I am slowly starting to get into that side of it all. If anyone has any tips for me, please do let me know as I really want to start learning!
You will also note as we go on that I tend to use only high street brands. Personally, I have no complaints about these brands and for the type of make up looks I wear on a daily basis they are more than enough for me and do exactly what I need them to at a really reasonable price. I do not yet think I am skilled enough to really justify some of the higher end brands out there just yet.
1. e.l.f
This is probably my staple brand and makes up the vast majority of the make up I own. Everything they sell works wonders: their matt lipsticks are still some of the best lipstick products I have ever used and last for absolutely ages too. They also do not budge throughout the day, so need very little maintaining once applied, which is always a plus in my books.
2. Barry M
Now I admit that I do not buy from Barry M all too often, as their dsy to day wear products I find to be less quality than the e.l.f products or others on the market. That being said, no one does colour better than Barry M. If you are someone who loves bright, bold colours that span an entire rainbow of shades, then Barry M is your go-to. Their eyeshadows especially I have always found to be very high quality, I am just always sad that I work in an industry where purple eye shadow would likely get me fired on the spot. Their nail polishes are also the same wide range of bold colours and I find that their nail polish is very high quality and lasts for ages – and I am someone who does an awful lot of work with their hands, from typing at a computer for work, to weight lifting, to cooking and crafting. Their nail polishes last ages and come in every colour you can imagine.
3. B. by Superdrug
This is another one of my staple brands for make up and beauty products. I have found in recent years that B tends to focus more on the skin care and beauty products more so than make up, but all are very high quality and are so insanely affordable that I am hard pushed to try much else once I know a B product works. Their skin care is definitely some of the best I’ve used, and their make up, whilst simpler than the other two brands mentioned above, do exactly what they need to and work really well for me. They do not have as many colours as Barry M, but I do find the B colour products to be far more wearable, so the majority of my day to day make up look is made up of B products, such as their matt finish pressed powder and their black mascara. Simple, yet so very effective and all for a really great price.
