Crosstown Cinnamon Scroll doughnut

I somehow question how I make it through the weeks without doughnuts. I don’t have them every week, but on the weeks I do get these extra little treats, it is just the most comforting and rewarding thing possible. Especially on those very busy weeks with lots of miles ran, lots of work meetings and just a whole lot of rushing about in general just trying to exist. I also have to add that Crosstown are truly knocking it out of the park at the moment.

There is something so wholesome about a cinnamon bun. I am someone who really loves cinnamon though so I always find that every cinnamon product is very conservative with the amount of cinnamon they actually use. I personally like a little bit of heat from the cinnamon, but I am aware that not everyone likes that and I am probably the outlier with this.

Unfortunately this is again a situation where the cinnamon is just a little too subtle for my liking. But objectively, this is probably about as perfect as it comes. Mainly because you can definitely taste the cinnamon in it, and I think that Crosstown are probably a bit more generous with their cinnamon serving sizes than most other companies. The icing used to cover the doughnut is pretty sweet, which I think does help to soften the cinnamon taste and balance it all out quite a bit. But you definitely get that really good mix of cinnamon heat and then the very sweet icing kick.

The doughnut base is the usual sourdough base which I am finding to be my new favourite. It is light and fluffy, as you would expect from a doughnut, but I feel it has a little heaviness to it which makes it feel far more substantive a treat than other doughnuts. I think it also really helps that the sourdough base is not sweet, so you aren’t left with a sickly feeling when combined with the very sweet icing sugar used. Although I have to admit that the size of this doughnut is way bigger than a normal doughnut, and after eating one I am normally pretty content. Although I will admit that as this doughnut isn’t overly sweet, you probably could eat more than one and not feel too sickly from it. Given the right situation, I am pretty certain that I could!

The good news is that this doughnut is one of Crosstown’s signature doughnuts, so is readily available at their locations and is available the whole year. It does cost £5, but I still think that is a really good price considering you get a whole lot of doughnut for that price. I also don’t eat these that often (in truth, possibly only once a month – twice if I am in London more than usual or I take a special trip in for something) so I think £5 for that special treat is very much worth while.
