Vitamin E oatmeal exfoliator

As part of my new years resolution, I am trying to focus more on my skincare and actually have a proper routine that works for me. I have used this before, but never in any sort of routine. I have however been using it regularly now for about 6 months, which I think has been enough time to give a good indication as to whether this will work for me in the long run or if I need to move on to try something different.

I have found that the Superdrug vitamin E skincare range has done wonders for me skin, as I use their night cream every day and it really has made a difference to the feel and look of my skin (review to follow soon!). So I am slowly going through their other products to see if these also work for me. I would also like to mention that skin wise, I tend to have normal skin, although in the winter it can get very dry due to the cold weather of England. I also wouldn’t say that my skin is ‘sensitive’, but I did struggle with acne as a teen so I do try not to use anything too harsh on my skin if I can help it.

Now to preface this, I am someone who works out a lot (usually 6 days a week) and I also usually wear make up every day, especially during the work week. I am therefore also one of those naughty people who works out with a face of make up on. Now I wouldn’t say it’s a ‘full face’ of make up, as I only use on a daily basis the basics of foundation, mascara, some setting powder and occasionally a little bit of blush and lipstick. I have yet to work out how to contour and I am still not sure I am even putting the make up on in the right order most days. But either way, I am probably not the gold standard for how to treat skin. I do however know that you should really only exfoliate your skin once a week, but again I do not always stick to this rule.

For starters, this exfoliator is so far working really well for me. It is made of oatmeal so it is very creamy. That being said, I have used two different tubes of this product and each one had quite a wild difference in their texture, so this may be something to be aware of if you struggle with any sort of sensory issue especially lumpy textures. The first tube I used was very lumpy, which took some getting used to because it did feel at times like I was just rubbing cooked porridge on my face. This second tube though is far creamier, and while I still get the odd little clump of oatmeal, it is a lot smoother and feels more like a cream than a scrub. It does have some rough texture to it though (it is an exfoliator after all) that feels like sugar granules whilst you rub it in, but it is still very gentle. It also doesn’t smell of much, which is both a good thing and a bad thing. For me, personally, I find that very strong smelling face products tend to leave my skin quite red afterwards so I do try to avoid them. It kind of smells like oatmeal, but there is definitely no strong smell either way.

This product is very gentle on my skin. In the past I have used products that I can only use once a week because it would genuinely leave my skin so red and raw that I couldn’t possibly have used it again for another week unless I wanted a skin graft afterwards. But this product is very gentle and I find it works wonders at removing any left over make up or just the grime of a week. As I say, I work out a lot and this involves a fair amount of running (usually 4 times a week) and the mileage I run varies depending on whether or not I am training for any sort of long distance run or not. I have recently started my half marathon training plan and I am finding that on the days where the run is harder than usual and I am therefore far sweatier than usual, this exfoliator really does help at the end of the day to get rid of a lot of the make up and sweat that has built up over the day as well as the workout. So far, I have not noticed any difference in my skin from using this exfoliator more than once a week, and my skin is still left feeling soft and hydrated after each use. Of course, this would be something that you should keep an eye on, as everyone’s skin is different and will therefore react to the same product differently. But so far I have no complaints.

As it is a Superdrug own brand product it is very affordable. One tube costs me £4 (£3.99 if we want to be very particular) and this will last me about two months, depending on how often I use it. Superdrug however are very good at doing a lot of offers on their products, so you could easily stock up on this product during one of their ‘3 for 2’ sales or ‘50% off’ sales that they seem to run pretty regularly. Now for £4, I am not expecting any product to be life changing – I know it won’t get rid of the dark rings under my eyes from years of sleep deprivation, nor will it make my skin look super glowy and healthy. But it has made my skin far brighter than before, and with this product I am far less prone to breakouts or a puffy face. Yes it may not be he most sophisticated product out there, but it does more than enough for me so I’m not sure what more I could want.
