Another of the new Veganuary offerings from Kirspy Kreme is a rework of their usual cookies and kreme doughnut. It is essentially the original glazed doughnut with vanilla cookie kreme frosting, topped with cookie crumb. It is made in conjunction with the chocolate cookie crunch that Krispy Kreme also released for Veganuary this year.

Thankfully this doughnut is far less sweet than the cookie crunch. Now it is is a doughnut, so it is obviously going to have a degree of sweetness, but thankfully the icing isn’t so heavily laden on that it’s just sickly sweet. I do find that the cookie crumbs can sometimes be a bit stale so aren’t as crunchy as I would hope, but they are still a nice change of texture from the fluffy doughnut. The base is your standard glazed doughnut, so you easily know what to expect with that. Now this doughnut is sweeter than the other vegan doughnuts on offer (such as the strawberry iced or the caramel) so I am not sure I would get this more than once a week. I also don’t think I could really eat more than one of these at a time, as the sugar shock would start to get too much about half way through a second in my opinion. But overall, a very pleasant doughnut, and I do hope they keep this one once Veganuary is over.

As usual, the doughnut was the regular price of £2.95, although when I visit we usually get a multipack as it does work out cheaper, plus there’s 2 of us. And we don’t really share well. I think, overall, Krispy Kreme is one of the best options out there. The doughnuts are consistently good quality – not amazing mind, they’re not going to change your life – and they are fairly priced to make them a regular treat during your week. My only hope is that they do keep these vegan options for the rest of the year, as Krispy Kreme – like most other companies – tend to release these products for Veganuary and then get rid of them as soon as 1 Feb arrives.
