NOMO cookie dough rabbit

I don’t believe that these are a new addition for Veganuary but this is the first time that I ever seen the rabbits sold separately. I have usually seen them sold as part of a bigger Easter egg set, and over Christmas NOMO tend to release a range of reindeer shaped chocolates instead of bunnies. I have also never seen the reindeers on the shelves around me though, so still think they may be quite rare to come across. So you can also imagine my excitement when I saw this little bunny finally on my local shelves.

I am quite a fan of NOMO. In my opinion, their chocolate is one of the best options out there. The chocolate is always the creamiest and from looking on their website they also seem to offer the widest range of different flavours and styles. This bunny was no exception. I can find that their chocolate tends to be on the slightly bitter side – a lot more dark chocolate than milk chocolate – but not as bitter as a full blown dark chocolate would be. Just something to be aware of if you really hate that dark chocolate taste. But for me the NOMO chocolate doesn’t have that weird, grainy aftertaste to it that some vegan chocolates can do, which is why it is also one of my favourite brands out there.

This little bunny has the chocolate outing, with a cookie dough filling. When I say cookie dough, I mean like actual cookie dough – imagine just a mixture of butter, chocolate chips, flour and sugar stuffed inside of a chocolate shape and that’s what I mean. Some chocolate brands out there say cookie dough when they really mean cookie pieces, but this is not one of them. The outside of this bunny is the very creamy chocolate of all NOMO bars, and has that really satisfying crunch when you bite into it. The cookie dough filling is very sweet, and also has this slight crunch to it, as though it has tiny little chocolate chips inside it. This is one of those products where the slight bitterness of the chocolate really works, as it does help to balance out the very sugary cookie dough filing. It is also a very satisfying size. Just the one was enough to satisfy my sweet tooth, but I do think that if I had tried to have a second it would have become very sickly, very quickly.

This little bunny was 70p at one of my local supermarkets, and this is also the first times I have ever actually found one. Normally I only have to choose from the standard mini bars that NOMO have released, and even then the selection is still quite low – I can usually choose between chocolate or caramel and sea salt, even though I know that they do have more flavours on offer. So for me 70p is very exciting because I really can’t find these anywhere, so am leaping at the chance to take one! I also think it is quite rare to find a vegan chocolate that is not just a chocolate bar, so there isn’t very much I can compare it to. The closest I can do is the Freddo bars I used to have as a child, which where also 10p when I was a child. Nowadays, I think they are around 50p, and are one of the most reliable ways that we British can track the rate of inflation. And honestly, this NOMO rabbit is so much tastier than a Freddo.
