Krispy Kreme Chocolate Cookie Crunch

Now while 2024 will be a big running year for me (I have some long distance races planned so training for those starts very soon!), I simply cannot pass up a new doughnut. Especially when it involves oreo cookie too…

Enter one of the newest doughnuts on offer from Krispy Kreme. The Chocolate Cookie Crunch, complete with a tiny little oreo cookie on top! This is a ring doughnut with chocolatey icing, cookie crumb topping with frosting and the little cookie on top to just elevate it even further with cookie goodness.

I love cookies, and I also love doughnuts, so this was a very good pairing in my opinion. It is also quite similar to the non-vegan cookies and creme doughnut that they offer year round so it is nice to have a vegan version. I am not quite sure however whether this will be a permanent addition or is just for the Veganuary period. Their website says limited edition, however Krispy Kreme does sometime bring back limited edition doughnuts later on in the year for periods of time, so fingers crossed they do the same with this! Or even better, that it is so popular they decide to leave it on the menu fulltime.

Personally, I have always preferred ring doughnuts, as I am not a massive fan of filled doughnuts. The cookie crumble on top does add a very satisfying crunch to the soft doughnut and the frosty is very sweet. The chocolate does help to dampen some of that sweetness though as it is very rich, however I found the chocolate a little too rich. So when the richness of the chocolate met the very sweet frosty, it did get pretty sickly by about half way through the doughnut. Now whilst it probably didn’t help that I did eat this doughnut after already having dinner and another doughnut first, but this one was really very sickly by the end and it did make me feel a bit in sugar shock. It was also quite dry, which is surprising when you see the amount of icing used, so I think it needs some sort of drink with it – possibly a coffee or tea, something quite strong to negate the amount of sugar.

These doughnuts are limited edition but they are still priced at the usual price of a Krispy Kreme doughnut, which is around the £3 mark depending on which one you get. That being said, it is usually cheaper though to get a box, as you can get a 3 pack for £4 in most places. For me, I always find Krispy Kreme to be the most fairly priced – the doughnuts are never anything spectacular (they likely won’t change your life or push any culinary boundaries) but they are perfectly priced for a decent sweet treat that you could afford on a regular basis.
