Squeaky Bean steak pieces

Following on from my previous Squeaky Bean review, I am now slowly working my way through their entire product range. It seems all of their products are very high in protein, so this works wonderfully for myself who is trying to improve my macro intake to improve my performance at the gym. I was very impressed with Tikka chicken pieces I tried, so had high hopes for the rest of their product range.

These steak pieces are again, weirdly realistic. They are quite flaky in texture, and do quite literally melt in your mouth as you chew them. Now they are quite plainly seasoned – it’s just meant to be a very basic grilled steak – and they taste how you would expect plain steak to taste. A little bit peppery and a little bit smoky, but otherwise not much else to taste. Now I think for these pieces this works great, because it means you can add it to a salad or a sandwich and it won’t alter the taste of it all that much. As I say it just adds a very soft pepper and smoke to the dish but nothing overpowering. On their own though, they are still very yummy and a re a very satisfying snack if you’re facing a mid-afternoon slump.

There isn’t much more to say about this. The food itself is very simple but this works very well in my opinion. It means I can add it to any meal and it helps boost my macros without dramatically changing the taste of the meal. The steak is also quite filling, so I find that a few pieces is enough to satisfy any hunger cravings I had, without causing any sort of heavy bloat.

Now Squeaky Bean is one of the more expensive brands out there. This pack is usually around £3 and I would say that a pack will last me just under 5 days of lunches. So £3 isn’t too bad if you are only having it as an addition or a small snack, but I think if you wanted to eat a whole pack every few days then the price would definitely start to ramp up. Now I get these from Tesco, and they do appear on Clubcard quite often for around £1.50-£2 so that obviously helps with any issues you may have regarding cost. Personally, I think these are absolutely worth the money as they do add a nice extra texture to most of my meals and also help me in my gym gains.

Overall: 8/10. Very yummy and a great snack option, although they are quite pricey if you wanted this as a main ingredient for your meal.
