The past few months I have been trying to focus more on my health and fitness. I’m running more and actually getting some decent numbers when it comes to my weight lifting. But a massive part of the fitness journey comes from the diet. You can run ultramarathons every weekend but if you eat like crap you’re not going to see the progress or improvements that you want.
Unfortunately this means that meals start to all look the same: my weekly meal plan is just a repeat of some form of protein, a load of veggies and some rice. That is my dinner. And my lunches are usually salads or soups. However in England it has yet again gotten to the minus degrees in temperatures so I have been trying to find hot and filling meals that will get me through the day without affecting my macros. So far the winner has been a good ol’ fashioned, soup and a sarnie.

These Squeaky Bean products have always been highly recommended to me. I’ve been told that they are always very tasty, quite readily available and are also very high in protein. So I finally decided to give these a go! Protein wise they are indeed very high macros, so if you are looking to increase your protein intake these are a helpful little boost.
Now these are very meaty. They have quite a flaky texture which does look quite chicken-like on first glance. I’ve been having them in a bagel to go with my soup for lunches while I’m at work and they really do taste like a chicken sandwich. The tikka on them is also quite mild – and I am usually a total pansy when it comes to anything spicy. The tikka gives a nice little kick but doesn’t linger or melt your mouth off like some spicy options out there. Personally, I feel like the tikka was a bit too mild but again I would prefer mild to having my face blown off. It seems brands can’t seem to get the balance right.

Now they are quite pricey. £3 for a pack of 100g. Definitely the most expensive option out on the market. The pack does however last me 5 lunches during the work week so I suppose that would work out to just over 50p per day. So yes, pretty expensive but for me it is worth the price to give me that extra kick of protein while still being tasty.
