Candy Kittens orchard apple and dragonfruit gummies

A lovely little treat today from a work colleague, who saw this packet of sweets and immediately thought that I would enjoy these. I usually do enjoy Candy Kittens but they are hard to find around where I am – or when you do find them they are stupidly expensive – so I do not pick them up that often. However there are some stores near me that will occasionally stock them for a reasonable price, but this is very rare so I was very excited to see these. I believe she got these from TX Maxx (of all the places) but I have also seen them occasionally at Tesco and Sainsbury’s.

These were exactly what you’d expect from Candy kittens product. The gummies are indeed gummy, and the fruit was refreshing. Now maybe my pallet isn’t as cultured, but I could not have told you the particular fruit flavour of these aside from ‘fruity’. They did have a very slight tartness to them, similar to what you would expect with raspberries and lemon, but were definitely very fruity. I could not have told you though that these were orchard apple and dragon-fruit. In all honesty I am not sure what the difference is between orchard apple and a normal apple is….

Now I always find Candy Kittens to feel like Posh Candy. They tend to do the more adventurous flavours – such as orchard apple and dragon fruit – that feel just a little bit more extra than other standard candies. The packaging is also very high quality as it literally feels like a bag, and the entire vibe from this brand is….boujee. Which is not a bad thing. The sweets are consistently delicious, and I also find them less sugary than standard candies which means I can eat a satisfying amount without feeling sick. The downside is that these sweets are stupidly moreish so finishing the whole packet in one sitting is doable.

Another plus to these sweets though is that they are palm oil free, which I know for many vegans (and even many non-vegans) is a very important issue. As a side note, I am still doing a lot of research into this as it does seem like palm oil is in EVERYTHING these days, so any advice you guys have on how to avoid palm oil or any useful resources I can read for more information I would be really appreciative and grateful!

Now I do not know how much these happened to cost as they were a gift, however I tend to see these on the shelves for between £2.50 – £3.50 depending on where you are shopping. Now £2.50 seems reasonable for these. They are of a higher quality and you do get a decent sized 125g bag for that price. £3.50 seems a little expensive, especially when I know that another store is selling them for £1 cheaper. Now if you want a slightly posher, higher quality candy then definitely try these because they are delicious. But if you just want some candy to have on stand by in your cupboard should the need arise, you should go for the cheaper stuff.

Overall: 8/10. Very yummy sweets and a very nice treat, but not something I would buy too regularly.
