Booja-Booja Honeycomb Caramel Chocolate truffles

I think it is common knowledge that Booja-Booja products are top tier vegan goodies. I have heard amazing things about Booja-Booja, from their truffles to their ice cream offerings but I find them very hard to actually find in the usual places I shop. I’ve usually only seen them sold in either specialist vegan only stores or at very expensive whole food places. Occasionally, the Booja ice cream is sold in our local supermarket but never in the summer months. SO I have not yet tried Booja products.

I did some pet sitting for a work colleague over the summer holidays though and as a thank you gift they bought me these Booja-Booja honeycomb caramel chocolate truffles. Now isn’t that title a mouthful! Now it has been around 30 degrees Celsius here in the England for the past month or so, which is just…unbearably hot for us. As a result the truffles were very melted when I first got them so I left them in the fridge overnight to try and harden them up again. Now the packet does say to keep them chilled, but I worry I overdid it a little bit.

Luckily, it is still so hot here that leaving the cold truffles on the side for about 5 minutes leaves them to melt a little bit so you get that lovely fudge/truffle texture. I tried them at both temperatures and either way….these things are absolutely divine.

These are DECADENT. They taste like money. The chocolate is very rich and dark, so you have that slightly bitter taste when you first take a bite. But the caramel is sweet and balances out the chocolate wonderfully, and the little chunks of honeycomb add the most satisfying and sweet crunch to the whole bite. I have found with some honeycomb products that the honeycomb sticks to your teeth and you have that really horrible sticky sensation on your teeth after each bite, but the honeycomb they use just seems to melt away as you chew it. It is crunchy and sweet and doesn’t leave any sticky feeling in your mouth after you’ve finished.

Can we just appreciate how bougee this packaging is??

Now as I say I tried these at both a chilled temperature and a room temperature. I preferred them chilled, as they had a lovely crunch to them on the outside but were still soft and delicate in the middle. The room temperature one was still yummy, but it had a more fudge texture to it. Not a bad thing, but in this heat it was really refreshing to have a sweet treat that was cold and yet wasn’t overly sweet.

I did find them very rich. Very yummy all the same, but I think even having two of the pieces felt a little too much. The chocolate is very bitter so if you’re not a fan of dark chocolate, just be aware of this. Yes the caramel and the honeycomb to balance it out but the first taste you have will be bitter and the lasting taste in your mouth is still slightly bitter, purely from the chocolate. As I say, they are absolutely delicious but for me one piece was more than enough to satisfy that decadent sweet tooth.

As this was a gift I do not know exactly how much was paid for this but having a quick google (for the purpose of this blog only!) it does seem to vary. Average price seems to be around £5 (although some places seem to have them up for around £10), but £5 does shock me a little bit. For once, I actually thought this food product would be justifiably expensive because of how decadent they are. £5 is still a lot for what is essentially 8 bites of chocolate, but they are so good and so extra I would expect them to cost more. These are a very lovely treat and if you want to spoil a vegan friend without breaking the bank, these are a total win.

Overall: 9/10. Totally decadent experience for a pretty reasonable price. Slightly too bitter to be perfect for me, but I will happily devour this packet over the next few weeks.
