The best find during our trip to LA was definitely Voodoo Doughnuts. We went to Universal Studies (Best place ever!) and saw this store with a big old ‘VEGAN DOUGHNUTS HERE’ sign out front. So you can bet I was straight in there!
The choice was mind blowing. When I visited (so granted this was about 3 years ago now) they had about 6 different options for me. Now despite my efforts I had not yet been able to find many vegan donuts, especially not ones as fancy and exciting as these ones that were on offer.
I tried the Chocolate and Coconut and the PB&J donuts.
Do not be fooled by the picture, the donut was huge. If there is one thing I really love about America, it is your portion sizes. It makes me so happy finding a vegan treat that is almost the same size as my face. I honestly felt like I wired after eating it for the amount of sugar that was now coarsing through my veins.
I have still to find a donut as good as these ones. They were light and airy, while still being crisp and satisfyingly spongey. If given the option, I would have eaten those for my entire trip. I mean PB&J can count as one of your five a day yes?! They were also really reasonably priced. I think I paid about $4 for one donut, and given the size, the quality and the amount of choice there was, I would have happily paid double that for a donut. If you guys get to try any of their newer options, please please please let me know what they are like so that I may experience the lushness second hand.
